Album View: The Long Dark Road's Self-titled Debut EP

Combining black metal with punk, hard core and alternative rock might not be a common musical setup, but that's pretty much what is being offered by Canadian based band, The Long Dark Road on their upcoming self titled EP. Being mainly formed by two brothers, Jeremy Cavan (guitar/vocals) and Rufus Cavan (bass), they brought in such interesting musical approach that could very well appeal many metal or rock lovers out there, including the modern generation. Set to be officially released on April 8, 2017, the new record consist of four intriguing tracks that provide an equal balance of that black metal scream, energetic punk vibe along with psychedelic-alternative atmosphere.

The new EP kicks off with 'The Tragedy of Commons' which immediately brought in that punk upbeat tempo blend with metal hard core scream right from the get go. That unique combination offers an interesting atmosphere as the song somewhat full of anger but remain bright with such nice melody and pace. 'I Will Follow' has more of metal and alternative feel into it with poetry reading like singing on the verse, before emerging into heavy melodic musical jam. Despite that groovy metal guitar riffs, there's also that fun bass line which brought in such enlightening mood from a rather gloomy and dark kind of ambiance. Being an eight minute long song doesn't make this track sound boring as the approach is very appealing with several changes that create different feel for those tuning in.

'The State of of Our Union' immediately brought a strong metal riffs with exciting groove with unique vocal setup and such sorrowful feel. This one is certainly an emotional track which once again capture different kind of mood with its continuous change of pace. Closing out the EP is the band's and album's name which showed that strong mix between heavy punk rock with blackened metal and a bit of psychedelic like approach. Once again this track somewhat showcasing the rockers' wide range of musical taste and prowess as they were able to execute those different music combination in such interesting fashion. Certainly an interesting piece of art that deserved to receive the utmost attention, notably for hard rock, metal and punk lovers who are keen on checking out something quite different from what they normally heard.

Born from the struggle and difficult moment that Jeremy experience recently, TLDR and their EP seemingly brought that deep, strong and rich of emotions into each songs. Completing the two Cavan brothers line up in the EP recording are Toby Cavan (drums) along with Vanin Veral (guitar), it remain to be seen on whether it will be their official permanent line up. Overall, the Canadian rockers' debut outing is certainly an interesting musical showcase that offers an insight of what they can offer for the music world today and upcoming future. Hopefully, their self titled record is just a start of more releases from the talented musicians as they have certainly show exciting potential that can add value into the music world
