The English-based metal act didn’t keep their fans waiting too long for the new album as their previous record, “Carpe Diem” was outed in February 2022. Saxon seem keen on showcasing their creativity as they immediately set out new music to entertain their die-hard fans with the firey “Hell, Fire and Damnation” record.

Although the new album’s process might not seem to take too long, Biff Byford and co certainly make a solid preparation for it, from the solid writing, arrangement, and lyrics. Byford once again put on a powerful vocal performance, showcasing his excellent voice which British metal lovers have long known.

Notably, the performances of other members, Nigel Glockler (drums), Nibbs Carter, Doug Scarratt, and Brian Tatler (both on guitars) are also more than noteworthy as they put on some of their best works. The band combines their musical expertise and crafts some fine new stuff for all metal lovers’ ears to enjoy in early 2024.

Saxon’s “Hell, Fire, and Damnation” Inspired by Historical Events

The English-based metal act looked well prepared as they seemingly set up a history and mystery theme for the album, which is visible from the title of their songs and lyrics. Moreover, making the new album more exciting, the band also got special help from renowned actor, Brian Blessed OBE, who gave out a haunting proclamation on the album’s opener ‘The Prophecy’.

As mentioned earlier, songs from the new record are inspired by historical events or characters that many people would be familiar with. Byford’s strong affection towards history takes the band diving into the French Revolution theme, Roswell myths, Kublai Khan, Marco Polo’s journey, and other interesting stories.

The band’s attempt to capture French history, notably Marie Antoinette’s tragic torture can be heard from ‘Lady Guillotine’ which also boosts the classic heavy metal sound and vibe but with a catchy feel. Meanwhile, myths about Roswell were being told in ‘There’s Something About Roswell’, which brings out plenty of grooves that blend well in fun heavy riffs. Another exciting historical storyline can also be heard from ‘Kubla Khan and The Merchant of Venice.

Other songs such as 1066 and Witches of Salem also bring out that historic tale blended with heavy metal riffs for all fans’ enjoyment. Saxon certainly put on an excellent combination of enchanting storylines with heavy-hitting music on the new album, giving out that exciting metal experience for everyone to enjoy.
