Mr. Big Eyeing to Release a New Album in 2024

The band have been busy with their ‘Farewell Tour’ that starts midway this year and will continue up until most of 2024. However, it looks like PG, Sheehan, Erik Martin and their additional drummer Nick D’Virgilio have something on their sleeves as well.

News about Mr. Big’s new album was not even considered as a discussion by the fans ahead of their ‘Farewell Tour’, especially following the passing of their original drummer, Pat Torpey. The band also didn’t mention the possibility during some interviews earlier this year, but it looks like things are changing or they might just prepare a surprise for their devotees. The rockers are now planning to commemorate their 2024 tour with the release of their brand-new album.

Mr. Big Already Started the Recording Process for their New Album

According to the band, they have already started recording for their upcoming record although it’s still not done yet. For now, Gilbert, Sheehan, and D’Virgilio have been laying down some tracks but it looks like Erik Martin is yet to do his part. They are currently recording the songs at Sweetwater Studios located in Fort Wayne, Indiana within the online music instrument retailer’s campus.

Both Paul and Billy stated that they are already in the final stage of recording their instrument parts for the new album. Meanwhile, Nick also added a bit more details, sharing that there will be some lovely tracks that fans can expect to hear in the new record. Moreover, the drummer also revealed that Erick hasn’t joined them yet but will be arriving and completing the recording soon.

There is still no official release date or title for the upcoming album, which will also be the follow-up to Mr. Big’s ninth studio record, “Defying Gravity” which was outed in 2017. That was also the last studio appearance for the late Pat Torpey, who passed away on February 7, 2018, from complications of Parkinson’s disease at the age of 64. Although there’s no exact timeline for the upcoming record’s release, it will most likely be outed next year as there are only a few days left before 2023 comes to a close.

The band previously hinted that they might not be looking to release another record due to Torpey’s passing and prefer going on the road for a farewell tour instead. However, they seem to be keen on celebrating their current and upcoming 2024 tour with the release of another record that can bring more enthusiasm to their die-hard fans.

Moreover, releasing a new album could also be the best parting gift for Torpey, who has been part of Mr. Big since the beginning. The band only experienced one personnel change with Paul Gilbert temporarily leaving the group in 1999 and was replaced by Richie Kotzen.

After disbanding in 2002, they reunited in 2009 with the original lineup as Gilbert was happy to return. The band initially planned to also take Kotzen, but he respectfully declined, believing it’s best if Mr. Big would just return with the original lineups instead.

More information about the band can be checked out at mrbigsite.com or their other social media platforms. Rock-Expert will also bring all the updates about the upcoming new album once we get a hold of it.
