Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt explains injury, Confirms No More Show Cancellation

Extreme guitarist/frontman, Nuno Bettencourt shares a detailed explanation regarding his recent injury while sincerely apologizing to the band’s fans who were planning to watch them at last weekend’s 2023 M3 Rock Festival.

Nuno’s Knee Injury Forced Extreme to Miss M3 Rock Festival

The hard rockers were penciled to appear at the 2023 M3 Rock Festival (on May 6 and 7), one of the shows they regularly performed at. Unfortunately, just a couple of days before the event started Extreme had to cancel their appearance following a knee injury that Nuno suffered a couple of weeks ago.

On his official social media account, Nuno revealed that the injury occurred while playing a random pick-up basketball game during his free time at the Monster Rock Cruise event. The guitar virtuoso explained that his knee injury was quite serious as after further check, he had torn his ACL and meniscus, which sporting-wise is considered a terrible injury.

That injury forced him to play sitting down on Extreme’s second show at the Monster Rock Cruise, much to his disappointment. However, Nuno was even more devastated as following the test result he had to cancel the band’s scheduled appearance at the 2023 M3 Rock Festival for the second year in a row. In the previous year, the Funk-Metal rockers had to do the same thing because of COVID, and this time they failed to pay their dues.

The current situation seems to bring a lot of grief for Nuno as he asked for an apology from his fans because of what has happened, especially with the M3 performance cancellation. The guitarist believes that he should’ve acted more responsibly since they are currently touring.

Extreme Set to Continue Tour Schedule Amid Nuno’s Injury

Nevertheless, despite his current knee injury and the M3 Festival absence, Nuno ensured that Extreme won’t be canceling their remaining shows. The guitarist stated that despite having the doctors advising him to take surgery, he has opted not to do it for now and prefers having therapy instead.

His reason for opting to avoid surgery is because it will force him to rest for six to eight months which means the band must cancel their current scheduled shows. Nuno is confident that he will be able to recover well for the upcoming tour as he promised that he won’t be sitting down on his upcoming shows.

Extreme’s New Album “Six” Will be Released in June

The guitar maestro is hoping that he will be able to go hard on the upcoming shows as he doesn’t want to give another disappointment to the fans, who have been very supportive of him and Extreme. Nuno is certainly keen on continuing the upcoming tour, especially since the band is also promoting their upcoming album, entitled “Six” which will hit stores and all digital platforms on June 9, later this year.

The rockers have already released three singles, ‘Rise’, ‘Banshee’, and ‘Rebel’ from the new record and a fourth track will also be unleashed soon. Having a positive response from their fans and the rock music community in general, Extreme are looking very excited about promoting “Six” and meeting them on tour.

The band will continue their 2023 road trip in Brazil as they are set to perform at the Best of Blues and Rock Festival in Sao Paulo on June 2. They will be heading to the U.S. for around a month-long tour starting on August 2 until 29 before flying to Australia and Japan in September.  Closing the year, Extreme have also scheduled shows in the UK and some cities in Europe.
