After unleashing his latest solo record, “Stick Man” back in 2007, Levin has finally returned with a new release “Bringing it Down to the Bass”, that will be available digitally on Bandcamp. Although it took 17 years for the bass maestro to craft another album, he has been very active in the music world mostly playing and recording as a session player for other musicians’ works.

Despite still being busy with other music projects, it looks like Levin has finally found the right moment to compose and release his seventh studio album to date. “Bringing it Down to the Bass” is said to be a sort of autobiography of the maestro’s musical journey thus far, which has been some years. The album’s title track and first single will be officially released on August 23 at Levin’s Youtube Channel.

Levin’s New Album Features Mike Portnoy, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Many More

Releasing a new album after 17 years certainly requires lots of preparation and that’s what the bass virtuoso did on “Bringing it Down to the Bass. In completing all the 14 tracks from that upcoming record, Levin collaborates with a horde of top musicians, which includes Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jerry Marotta, Robert Fripp, and many more.

Music fans will be anticipating an exciting piece of musical masterpiece from Levin, especially with his exquisite progressive rock, fusion and funky style. Moreover, with the huge amount of top musicians who are involved in the upcoming record, “Bringing it Down to the Bass” certainly offers an exciting premise ahead of its official release. The maestro himself stated that his new album is something special as it’s been in the works for 10 years.

“On Sept 12th, I’ll release my new album, Bringing It Down to the Bass. Ten years in the making, and I’ll have lots more to say about it in the coming months,” Levin wrote on his official site.

Tony Levin to Tour With Vai, Belew, and Carey

Aside from releasing his new studio album, in September, the bass extraordinaire will get himself busy with many shows. Levin has been confirmed to be part of the Beat Tour, which also consists of the likes of Steve Vai, Adrian Belew, and Danny Carey.

The supergroup collaboration will be playing repertoire from King Crimson’s past three albums, “Discipline”, “Beat”, and “Three Of A Perfect Pair. Although they have just been formed, Beat have been attracting plenty of interest as their upcoming tour, which will start on September 12, is mostly sold out already. This upcoming long trip might also mean that Levin won’t have much time next month to support his new studio album’s release with a solo tour.
