Thrash metal royalty, Megadeth, plans to release its final studio album in 2026 and will also stage a farewell tour that year. The band’s frontman, Dave Mustaine, revealed that plan via their official YouTube channel, while using his alter ego, Vic Rattlehead.

Despite still gearing up to complete their tour this year, Megadeth has already made plans for the future. On the band’s social media account, they revealed their plan to release their final studio album next year. That upcoming
Mustaine, who uses his alter ego, Vic Rattlehead, stated on YouTube that their next record will simply be their last. Having spent 40 years in the metal world, the vocalist/guitarist believes that their time to call it a day is just around the corner
“This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it’s our last studio album. We’ve made a lot of friends over the years and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour. Don’t be mad, don’t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years,” Mustaine said.
The 63-year-old also explained that his decision plan for Megadeth’s farewell was also because he witnessed many of his peers didn’t get to bow out on their terms. Mustaine believes that it’s just the best time to announce their goodbye so the band can deliver their final work and bid farewell on tour to their die-hard fans, which won’t be an easy moment.
“There’s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional,” the Metal maestro added. “Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now. I have traveled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them.

Megadeth to Finish Europe Tour This Year
Aside from preparing for their final studio release, the metal act is currently also gearing up for their 2025 European tour schedule. Next September, they will start their Euro leg in Turkey and are scheduled to go until October this year.

Their upcoming final album will be the follow-up to “The Sick, the Dying…and the Dead which was released back in 2022.
