Album View: Zaragoza’s Solo Debut EP “Child of The Sun”

Enjoying a relatively successful performances with his Hollywood based band, Sinicle, Zaragoza opting a different path from his usual metal act. The singer/songwriter decided to go into a more of an acoustic based stuff in his debut Solo EP entitled “Child of The Sun”. Receiving its official release on April 5, 2019, that record started off well by debuting #5 on Billboard Heatseekers Pacific and #24 on overall Heatseekers chart. Being a debut release, that’s certainly an encouraging signs that this new stuff from the talented musician is something that many music lovers can certainly enjoy before even knowing much about his previous stuff.

Claiming that “Child of The Sun” is simply a different side of artistry he hasn’t expressed before, Zaragoza doesn’t sound awkward in delivering his musical stuff. Starting with a nice comforting rock-ballad that has a slight alternative feel in ‘Afternoon’, the singer simply takes its listener into his realm. ‘Mr. Caterpillar’ follows up next with such melodic verse before shifting into a fun and enjoyable hook part. It’s simply such exciting piece with fine musical arrangement from start to finish, certainly a worthy pick as the album’s main single. ‘Lucky Fool’ is another interesting piece that brings out that acoustic-rock element and blends it with bit of pop, ballad and hit of alt rock vibe as well.

The album title track, started off with a unique sounding guitar intro before heading into that melodic and catchy verse. This song once again brings out such authentic sound with the strong acoustic based and his interesting vocals approach, combining well into this intriguing acoustic rock synergy. ‘Wander’ seems to offer a much stronger alternative feel with that bit of grunge influence going on, at least in the early part of the track. ‘Get Me High’ ended this musical journey from Zaragoza giving a very raw guitar/ukulele acoustic experience with strong pop-rock element being implemented in it. It’s a musically very minimalist song, but never really lose its fun and excitement atmosphere due to the fine melodies and vocal performance.

Starting his musical path due to his late father’s influence, Zaragoza keeps working on improving his craft from starting his band Sinicle to study music at Musicians Institute. The musician’s hunger to keep working hard in discovering and adding new element into his repertoire deserve positive acknowledgment. By listening to his debut EP, “Child of The Sun” people can acknowledge the immense talent that he possess with fine arrangement in a naturally not too fancy setup. Just with an acoustic based approach, the singer/songwriter implements his pop-rock-ballad element with some other combination into his songs. Overall, it’s a fun and entertaining record which can be enjoyed by music enthusiasts from multiple genre.
