Polyphia recently released another exciting song ‘Ego Death’ along with its accompanying music video via their official youtube channel. The new song is still part of the band’s upcoming album “Remember That You Will Die”, which was officially released on October 28 this year.
‘Ego Death‘ is the fourth single that the band unleashed from their new record, after previously releasing ‘Playing God’, ‘Neurotica’, and ‘ABC’. That track also features a surprise appearance from guitar legend, Steve Vai.
Having Vai on that track brings out a different element that we might not often hear from Polyphia, especially in their latest releases. The veteran maestro brings out his own take on the song, although he only started midway into the track, his presence was certainly felt.
The song started off with a cool, slow, classical-like riff combined with a modern vibe that acts like an invitation to something more interesting. It eventually moves into a more progressive-funky and faster beat with Tim Henson once again showcasing his excellent chops.
The track is probably their most ‘intriguing’ so far, notably because of the combination of several different elements and feels. The song suddenly shifts into a more hard-rock/metal vibe when Scott put out his solos. Things switch again when Steve Vai enters the scene with his classic and stylish play.
Overall, ‘Ego Death’ can be considered as one of Polyphia’s most exciting stuff in recent years, or probably from the new album. The several musical shifts make it more exciting, especially for regular music enthusiasts.
Enjoying guitar-based instrumental music is not always easy but Polyphia manages it with ‘Ego Death’. The popularity of that song currently has been watched around 7.4 times on Youtube is more than proof of how enjoyable it was.
