Music View: Dream Theater’s ‘ Night Terror’ Excites More than 1M Fans

Dream Theater‘s comeback to their original lineup with Mike Portnoy returning on drums continues to excite fans as the band’s new single ‘Night Terror’ is showing that positive sign. The progressive rock act released its new track along with the official music video on October 10 and it’s already received more than 1.5m views on YouTube albeit being 10 minutes long.

Dream Theater Release New Single 'Night Terror' ahead of their forthcoming record "Parasomnia".

Dream Theater’s  ‘Night Terror’ Got Massive Welcome by Fans

The band revealed back on October 25, 2023, that they reunited with Portnoy who left back in 2010 and was replaced by Mike Mangini. Soon after confirming the reunion, Dream Theater also announced that they are working on a new album which is now close for an official release.

Ahead of the new record, entitled “Parasomnia”, DT have finally unleashed their first single ‘Night Terror’  a couple of days ago and it received an excellent response from the music enthusiasts, notably their fans. The new song’s music video so far has already been viewed over 1.5m after just four days of release, which is a pretty big number for rock progressive musicians.

Although Dream Theater are one of the most well-known prog rock acts in the last few years, still their long absence and age can often put off many music lovers from hearing any new stuff. However, that might not be the case for John Petrucci and co as fans seem eager to witness how they will return after Portnoy’s comes back into the group.

‘Night Terror’ Still Showcases the Band’s Excellent Musicality

One of the reasons why the new track can immediately attract fans is probably because, from the start, DT immediately showcases their classic musical prowess with exciting heavy riffs. The band just got all of those die-hard listeners hooked once they heard Petrucci, Portnoy, John Myung, and Jordan Ruddess just jamming around with their classic progressive runs.

They also managed to maintain their classic heavy sound but without neglecting any modern touch, creating such iconic yet up-to-date riffs. James La Brie’s vocals remain unique, albeit not as perfect as they used to but still connect and blend in well with the whole song. The hook part specifically will most likely catch plenty of attention as it has that ear-catching melody and is just easy to enjoy, even for those who might not be a fan of hard rock or metal music.

Dream Theater’s New Album “Parasomnia” to be Released in 2025

Although the fans thirst for new material from the American progressive metal band, their new album won’t be out until February 7, 2025. It’s not too long of a wait as 2024 is coming to an end soon, but there’s still going to be some months of patience needed before you can get your hands on all of the new stuff from DT.

The new single itself is also available on a shorter version as Petrucci and co also released the radio edit version on streaming platforms. Aside from promoting their latest track ‘Night Terror’, Dream Theater will also be hitting the road for their 40th-anniversary tour that is scheduled to kick off on October 20 this year and will go until July 2025. More dates could potentially be added as for now, they are only playing in Europe, South America, and the United States.

One thing is for sure, although the band’s ‘Night Terror’ might not be yet groundbreaking stuff it already managed to entertain music fans who have been keen on listening to their new stuff. That’s why, “Parasomnia” looks to be one of the most anticipated rock/metal albums next year.
