Russ Hewitt offers exciting Spanish guitar experience in new album “Chasing Horizon”

Spanish guitar maestro, Russ Hewitt gears up his return to the music realm this summer with a new album entitled “Chasing Horizons”. On the upcoming record, scheduled for the August 19 release, Hewitt teams up with several top guitarists, such as Nuno Bettencourt and Marty Friedman.

Following the success of his previous records, “Bajo El Sol”(in 2008), “Alma Vieja” (2011), and “Cielo Nocturno” (2016), Hewitt finally returns with another exciting instrumental journey/ The upcoming album is called “Chasing Horizons”, is the Nuovo flamenco maestro’s comeback to showcase the music world and guitar heads that he is still alive and kickin’.

Hewitt seems keen on showcasing his musical maturity and improvement after his latest album which was almost six years ago. For the new record, the Spanish guitar virtuoso collaborates with plenty top class musicians, including the widely known Nuno and Marty.

Opening the track is a smooth sailing melodic piece, ‘Allende’ that brings out that comfort and chill vibe right from the get-go. The fine combination of soft melodies, rhythm, and technical solos just blends into one enchantingly soothing harmony.

After starting with a comfy atmosphere, Hewitt takes us into a somewhat rumba flamenco feel in the album title track. This lead single also features the classical guitarist collaboration with Extreme‘s Nuno Bettencourt.

The 7/8 time signature piece managed to showcase a unique side of Nuno as he exclusively plays with a nylon string instead of his usual electric or acoustic guitars. The Extreme axeman obviously did an excellent job as he just blends in well with what Russ is trying to express.

The next track on “Chasing Horizons” is ‘Vivir Libre’, which is a collaboration with the former Megadeth guitarist, Marty Friedman. The duo’s combination managed to create an interesting montuno rhythm track that highlights their characters, notably Marty who is known for his unique runs and arpeggios.

Continuing the guitar instrumental adventure, Hewitt takes us into an enchanting piece called ‘Amor Perdido’, which features the Bucharest All-Star Orchestra. The orchestra addition creates another different atmosphere in comparison to the previous three tracks.

For the fifth track, the guitar maestro brings out that radiant feel with ‘Luminous’ that somehow also has that happy-sad mood slightly lingering. Next on the list is an interesting collaboration with fellow classical guitar maestro Jorge Strunz in a title called ‘Sunset Samba’. The song has that laid-back feel while adding a slight jazzy-samba combo plus fine technical playing from both guitarists.

An exciting combination of two magical styles can also be heard from ‘Cubalia Café’ which offers Hewitt’s collaboration with another classical maestro, Ardeshir Farah.  Closing the record is ‘Return to Simitai’, a duet between the guitar virtuoso and Vietnamese zither master, Tri Nguyen.

Overall, it’s a very interesting and enjoyable instrumental record that music fans, notbaly guitar heads should check out.
