Music fans and guitar heads got themselves a massive treat in recent days as three guitar maestros, Joe Satriani, Richie Kotzen, and Nuno Bettencourt made a rare appearance together on stage. The trio jammed together during Satriani’s show at the Monsters Of Rock cruise event on March 5, which saw them performing Cream’s ‘Crossroads’ and ‘Going Down’ from Jeff Beck/Freddie King.
Joe Satriani Jam Onstage with Richie Kotzen and Nuno Bettencourt
Having just recently finished his G3 reunion tour with Steve Vai and Eric Johnson, Satriani seems keen on replicating that experience again during his performance at the Monster Of Rock cruise. The ‘Always With You, Always With Me’ composer was entertaining the crowd at his show and got them even more excited after he called up both Nuno and RK onto the stage for a special jam.
Noting that they didn’t have time to prepare for anything much, Satriani suggested that they were just going to jam some familiar tracks, starting with Cream’s classic track ‘Crossroads’. The three guitar maestros looked to be enjoying themselves as they comfortably rocked out to the tune, exchanging chops, solos, and just some fine guitar playing.
Aside from Crossroad, Satriani, Kotzen, and Bettencourt also performed another classic piece, ‘Going Down’ which is also quite familiar among guitar enthusiasts, especially those who are familiar with G3 jam setlists. Similar to the first song, the trio also put on another fine guitar display, showcasing not only their technical skill but also musical prowess along with showmanship which entertained the fans.
Satriani, Kotzen, and Bettencourt Are Set for More Tour Dates in 2024
The three guitarists’ appearance together might not be something that they scheduled beforehand as it happened because they are part of the Monster Of Rock show roster this year. Joe, Richie, and Nuno all are performing at the event and somehow had the time to do a jam session together.
All three maestros will also hit the road with more shows as Satriani will start his tour with Steve Vai this month, Kotzen is gearing up for his solo trip, while Nuno is set to finish his schedule with Extreme. So, music fans can expect to check them performing live on the road this year, though they might also be preparing other projects as well along the way.
Nuno and Extreme could soon release a new music video in support of their 2023 album, “Six”, while Richie did confirm that he is working on some new songs earlier this year. Meanwhile, Joe’s closest project would still be heading into some live shows with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, and Jason Bonham for The Best of All Worlds 2024 Tour.
