Mr. Big’s legendary bassist, Billy Sheehan, remembers his former bandmate, the late Pat Torpey, with a cover song from The Hollies that they arranged years back. The song that both Billy and Pat cover was titled ‘Long Dark Road’, which they recorded for the bassist’s CD single released called All Mixed-Up back in 2002.
Billy Sheehan Remembers Pat Torpey
The strong relationship between Mr. Big members has always been solid and strong, despite they experiencing a breakup for a while. Among the members, it’s quite well known that there’s a continuous connection between Billy and Pat, who seem to keep in touch even during their split or rest time in the band.
The connection between those two top musicians often resulted in collaboration outside of Mr. Big, notably for their solo projects. Recently, an old project of Mr. Sheehan, which was from his solo CD entitled All Mixed-Up, came to give him a reminiscence of his time with the late Pat.
On his social media, Billy shared a cover song that he and the renowned drummer recorded titled ‘Long Dark Road’. That track was their take on The Hollies’ song, which was part of the bass maestro’s All Mixed-Up solo record.
In ‘Long Dark Road’, Billy not only plays bass, but he also sings and plays all the guitar parts while Pat naturally handles the drumming. That song somehow just came up while he was just relaxing and enjoying music on his iTunes.
“Hanging out w my iTunes folder tonight—came across a Hollie’s song I did a remake of with Pat Torpey on drums. I did all instruments and vocals, but having Pat along made it all work! I miss him very much
,” Billy Sheehan wrote on social media.

Both Billy and Pat did a lovely cover work for ‘Long Dark Road’ as the bassist showcased his unique vocals aside from the widely renowned instrument playing. The drumming also blends in well, showcasing the excellent quality of Pat Torpey, who is a bit underrated musically in comparison to his other Mr. Big band members.
Pat, unfortunately, passed away on February 7, 2018, due to complications of his Parkinson’s disease. The drummer announced that he had Parkinson’s back in 2014 and gradually had to reduce his drumming part for Mr. Big, even during their hectic reunion period.
