Canada-based rockers, The Wring are set to entertain their fans again and shake up the music realm again this month with the release of their new genre-bending album “Nemesis”. Don Dewulf and co have been working hard since last year to craft new music and it’s just waiting for an official release which is scheduled for September 27.

The progressive rock act has been providing plenty of fun music since 2017 with their self-titled debut record. After releasing “Spectra” in 2022, Dewulf finally returns this time and is keen on providing music enthusiasts, especially progressive rock lovers with some new stuff on his upcoming album “Nemesis”.

On the new album, Dewulf will once again collaborate with Reggie Hanche who also played bass on their previous album “Spectra”. However, aside from sharing his bass-playing skills, on “Nemesis”, Reggie will also fill in all the vocals on that record. As for the drum, the Wring opted to use the service of Kyle Brian Abbot who replaces Marco Minnemann’s work in the band’s third release.
The Wring to Capture Diverse Music Audience with New Album
Dewulf and Co are not planning to walk away from their progressive-rock base for their upcoming release, although they are implementing a wider range of influences on the new record. The Wring believes that “Nemesis” will be a genre-bending album that can capture diverse musical listeners, including those who might be new to their music.

The trio set up a total of eight songs for the album, selecting ‘The Sword’ as their first single which was unleashed digitally on August 13. That track does sound quite suitable as an opening introduction as the heavy-hitting drums and sound can immediately get the prog-rock or even metal enthusiasts attracted.
‘The Nail’ is the second single that they picked from “Nemesis” and it’s another hard-hitting track that showcases their hard rock and metal influences which blends well with the band’s progressive identity. The official music video for the song was already released via The Wring’s official YouTube channel on September 6.

‘Badlands’ is another progressive rock track that still showcases the band’s heavy approach with the combination of solid sound and emphatic musical arrangements. ‘Blur’ offers a slight fusion vibe with the hard rock feel that is still there but also a slight jazzy or pop-alternative element seemingly being implemented on the cool instrumental track.
‘Before I Disappear’ has that 80s rock feel blended with a Prog-rock vibe, creating such a charmingly unique song. Those looking for another slight fusion and a bit more jazzy influence can also check out ‘Welshrats’ while ‘Dark Passenger’ will take music fans into a more mysterious vibe that presents that modern rock element as well. The album’s title track which is also the final song brings out another fusion and progressive rock combination that cemented the band’s sound and theme.
‘Before I Disappear’ combines elements of 80s rock with a Prog-rock twist, resulting in a delightfully distinctive song. For those seeking a touch of fusion and a hint of jazz influence, ‘Welshrats’ is worth tuning in. Meanwhile, ‘Dark Passenger’ offers a mysteriously captivating vibe that incorporates modern rock elements. Lastly, the title track of the album, serving as the final song, showcases yet another fusion of progressive rock with a jazzy element, solidifying the band’s unique sound and thematic style.
Overall, The Wring’s new album “Nemesis” is certainly an interesting record that worth checking out, especially for progrock lovers. However, the prog genre is not for everyone so despite the band’s effort in blending several different elements, it might not be enough to capture every music fan from multiple genres but it’s fine.
